DOCTOR WHO Recap - The Angels Take Manhattan (7.5)

By Ruthie

Watch It In the Dark And Never Sleep Again: “The Angels Take Manhattan”

Welcome, fellow Whovians, to this, our last adventure with the Ponds. I’m going to start this recap a little differently from usual, with a warning. Normally, I assume you know what a recap is and you take your chances if you want to read it before you watch the show. This time, however, I’m going to come right out and say that you really need to watch it before you read. There is some scary, scary stuff going on, and I don’t want to deprive you of the joy of jumping, screaming, and sobbing along with the rest of us, and if you know it’s coming, it won’t be nearly as much fun. With our spoiler warning out of the way, let’s dive right in. This episode features the scariest Weeping Angels since “Blink,” so I heartily recommend that for full effect, you watch it in a nice dark room.

Heck, watch it in a dark room anyway—you’ll only compliment the film noir vibe that two thirds of the episode are rocking.

DOCTOR WHO Recap: The Power Of Three (7.4)

By Ruthie

The Cheesiest Closing Line in the History of Doctor Who: “The Power of Three”

At last we have come to this: the penultimate episode of the Ponds. We have been told that this one is meant to be from the point of view of the Ponds more than most episodes, so I suspect that its main purpose is going to be lulling us into a happy sense of adoration before horribly killing them or doing something equally dreadful to them next week. (When Steven Moffat has promised us a “heartbreaking” farewell.)

DOCTOR WHO Recap: A Town Called Mercy (7.3)

 By Ruthie

Welcome, welcome once again to another episode of Doctor Who. Now, you may recall that last week’s episode didn’t push my happy buttons particularly well, but, since this episode was the one that got previewed at Comiccon over the summer, I have high hopes that this one will be awesome. Incidentally, you may also recall that I grumped a fair bit about the Doctor essentially murdering Argus Filch at the end of the episode, and how I felt that this didn’t jive with the Doctor’s character. I’ve had a few people tell me I was way off about that—the end of “The Waters of Mars” was cited at one point—and that it matches very well with certain points in the Doctor’s past. In general, I’d say yes, but it seemed to me that since the reboot, we’ve been building a pretty specific character arc for the Doctor, and this just didn’t seem to fit. Ten had his moments of vengeance, but even at his least merciful, he didn’t let Harriet Jones get away with Torchwooding the Sycorax. Yes, he went a bit nuts there at the end, but Eleven’s response to that has so far been to be even more compassionate. Either the conclusion was out of character, or the Doctor is changing. Rumor has it that this episode is going to delve into that very issue further, so I’m looking forward to that...

The Triumphant Return of Doctor Who! “Asylum of the Daleks” Recap!

By Ruthie

David Tennant once said, “The thing about ‘Doctor Who’ is that it’s very hard to explain and not sound like a lunatic.” Well, he would know. And so would I! Whether you’re new to the whole Doctor Who phenomenon or you’re old hat, welcome to the Wicked Theory Recaps of Doctor Who.

I’m Ruthie, your resident lunatic, and I’m looking forward to (read: squealing with delight about) the new season of Doctor Who and recapping it for you!

I really love this show. How much do I love it? Would it surprise you to learn that I’m currently watching it in my Doctor Who themed media room? That I played with a toy K-9 as a kid? That, until my husband placed a blanket veto on all names Doctor Who derived, I was seriously and earnestly trying to convince him that either Romana or River would be awesome middle names for our as-yet-unborn daughter? I’m a complete geek about this show. So I’m glad you’re here, I’m glad the Doctor’s back, and let’s get into this...
